A Paris : Chez Pellier : et Demoraine, an deuxième de la République française [1793]
Almanac with instructions for finding the time of the night based on the stars. Each month also includes essays on astronomy. Final section includes instructions on procuring treasures of Peru by planting mulberry trees to encourage the culture of silk worms, whose silk may then be exchanged for gold. The almanac itself uses the ten new revolutionary months, with an explanation of the new calendar system. The star chart and planisphere, however, retain the traditional 12 month system. Later editions of the almanac, entitled L'horloge du labourer, have charts with the revolutionary months. The star chart and planisphere are also exceptional for joining constellations with solid or dotted lines, instead of using constellation figures. Non-pictorial star charts were thought not to occur until the nineteenth century. Cf. Nick Kanas. Star maps. Berlin ; New York : Springer, 2007
